Antalya family beach day: Konyaaltı or Lara?

Updated October 8, 2026 · 4 min read

A waterfall dropping from Antalya’s coastal cliffs into turquoise water, with an excursion boat nearby

For a family, Antalya’s best beach is usually not the one with the most dramatic photograph. It is the beach that fits the hotel location, allows an early return and works with the sea conditions that day. Konyaaltı and Lara serve different parts of the city, so the first question is distance, not reputation.

Konyaaltı: practical from the western centre

Konyaaltı stretches west of central Antalya beneath the mountain view. Its shore is largely pebbly, so water shoes may be useful for children who dislike stones. Choose a specific access point and check the facilities there rather than assuming the whole coastline has the same shade, toilets or food.

The advantage is flexibility. Families staying near the centre or west can make this a short beach visit and leave when energy drops. That is often worth more than a long transfer to a beach that looks better online.

Lara: check the exact pin

“Lara” can describe a broad area east of the centre. A hotel, public beach and boat departure carrying the Lara name may not be beside one another. Check the map pin and return route before setting out.

Sand can be easier for play, but it does not remove the usual questions: where is the shade, how far are the toilets, and can you leave without waiting for a group transfer? Never infer calm or shallow water from promotional photographs. Follow local warnings and assess the sea when you arrive.

Beach time and a boat are not interchangeable

The Antalya beach-and-waterfalls boat trip with lunch and soft drinks is a fixed excursion, not a flexible beach day. Before booking, ask about total duration, pickup time, shade, toilets, child-size life jackets and swim-stop access. Operators set different participation limits, so confirm the conditions for each child.

Bring drinking water, sun protection, a change of clothes and footwear suited to the chosen shore. Plan one main activity and keep the exit simple. If the sea is rough or the youngest traveller is tired, a promenade walk and an early meal are a successful change of plan.

Compare Antalya boat trips only if the family wants a scheduled day at sea rather than independent beach time.
